We are seeking an experienced Grocery Retail Manager to lead operations at our small village market. This is a unique and exciting opportunity to be part of a transformational project — converting a long-standing seasonal market into a year-round grocery destination for the community.
Beginning this winter we will be retrofitting and expanding retail space within the building and in Spring 2026 we will relaunch as a full-service, 12-month operation — a much-needed outlet for our community. The successful candidate will not only manage daily store operations but also provide strategic input during the renovation and relaunch process. They will also work closely with the previous owners to ensure a smooth transition, benefiting from their knowledge and community relationships.
Key Responsibilities
• Oversee daily store operations including staffing, scheduling, and training
• Assist ownership with planning, design, and operational input for upcoming renovations
• Work with previous owners to ensure a smooth operational and community transition
• Establish and implement systems for year-round operations (transitioning from seasonal to permanent model)
• Manage supplier relationships, purchasing, and negotiations to maximize profitability
• Implement inventory management systems to reduce shrink and waste
• Develop and execute merchandising strategies and planograms
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, and food regulations
• Monitor financial performance and drive continuous improvement initiatives
• Act as a community ambassador, building loyalty and excitement for the new year-round offering
Qualifications
• Proven experience managing or consulting in grocery retail
• Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills
• Knowledge of POS/ERP systems for grocery operations
• Ability to analyze financials, control costs, and improve margins
• Experience contributing operational input into store renovations, expansions, or launches
• Hands-on approach with a customer-first mindset
• Ability to collaborate with ownership and former operators during the transition period
Compensation: Salary and bonus arrangements to be negotiated based on experience and qualifications.
